studio time

so im going to the studio sunday. we went tuesday. tuesday was a disaster. i didn't get much recorded. i was too sleepy. and anita's thing took too much time. but anita's time was worth it. it was definately a step forward. it was the best showing i've seen ever anita doing. it was pretty badass. it feels like a film soundtrack. she was on the piano. doodling around. basically i said record it. she wasn't sure. i knew it was what we needed to do. she likes pianos. she doesn't own one. whenever we go to a music store she does this. plays it for awhile. does alot of cool stuff. has a sense of fun. i wanted to capture that. it happened purely by accident. but i remember the guy from the grizzly man soundtrack. the werner herzog film. basically they had an extra thing for the making of the soundtrack. the guitarist was talking about how each performance was different. each one was unique. and thats what gave it character. i kinda believe that. anita did the same thing. it has character. something she'll never do again. not quite that way again. unless she wanted to memorize. so that's that really. she did a great job. but all my time went away. so i didn't get a chance to do a good job. the things i did sucked. i wasn't in the zone

we have the loop pedal in the car. got replaced. the old one got fucked up. somethin happened. not sure what. it just doesnt work. kinda shitty. but it did its job. for a long while. just ran its course. happens. shame though. i had it awhile. never fucked up. always reliable. but thats that. anyway. equipmentwise we brought alota stuff. guitar bass and acoustic. keyboard and pedals. and then of course lyrics. written and on laptops. plus my mind. creativety ready to go. this's the third time that we'll spend in the studio. i'm not sure how that'll go. it should be pretty badass. i've got alot to get off my chest. there's alot to say. alot to sing about. plus lots of ways to do music. lots of things i havent tried in the studio yet. lots of old songs to re-record. a couple simple tracks that can be overdubbed. new tracks to be written, either in acoustic, loop pedal, or full band. there's alot of directions to go. i'm not sure what exactly i'll decide to take it. there's alot of different genre's i'd like to explore. basically it'd be cool to do grime. but the thing is i'm not good at it. i'm not even quite sure how to do it. that comes with lack of experience. but i'm willing to give it a try. i've always been into turntabling too. like scratching and stuff. i was thinking of getting dj hero.

songwise ive written alot of words online. havent really used them for anything. at least not for the mostpart. theyre just kinda there if i need 'em. whichs kinda nice. drumwise i apparently am not as good as i used to be. they didnt have a high hat. which sucked. but i made do. i ended up taking off the drum tracks. the keyboard drums seem to work well. but the laptop beats work now thanks to cords. i guess the stuff needs to be grounded. it takes away all the hiss. i havent done anything yet with hammerhead beats. theyre super easy to use. probably way easier to use than a click track. so i might just start makin those. the click is also super loud too. but its cool how the headphones work. adjust each thing for each track. makes it easier to play to. its also nice that all the instruments are there. i just kinda wish shit wouldn't take so long to do. at least on the engineers side. he takes awhile to set shit up. i know its pretty complicated. but it would be nice if he had shit set up before we got there. the piano sounds really good. so that might be something to take advantage of. but yeah. i dont really write piano music. but i do have a couple keyboard songs. thing is i dont really have rewire anymore. which made all my best beats. which sucks. but oh well. i can get by.

there's alot of topics i can draw from. the songtitles in the book are a starting point. officially band names they can be used in different ways. its cool to have that really. tuesday was the first time i felt like i was using audacity. it was pretty cool. kinda got shit done. not bad really. got used to using the setup. and not shy about telling the guy what to do. thats probably the best way to do it. otherwise youre just kinda like wasting your time. youve gotta try hard to get shit done. you dont have much time. times expensive. and then when its up youve gotta go. its usually never when you want it. but thats how it usually works. and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. but i definately wish i could have indefinate time in a studio. i wish it didnt cost so much. i think all i need is a soundproof booth. big enough for drums. with perhaps controls inside. something that says stop recording and start it. maybe the ability to change tracks. the actual pc would somewhere else. that keeps it easy. otherwise youre kinda screwed. so i have alot of old tracks i can fuck with. but the question is what do i want to do. im not entirely sure. i wouldn't mind having a dhol player. but they're hard to find. so that's that really. but if i could find one it would be cool.

genre wise i dont even know what to call myself. i was talking to a roadie yesterday. she makes as much as the band. she books their tours. and she rides in busses with about ten or twenty people. she was riding with the band since she was ten. i thought that was kinda crazy. you wouldnt expect afterall someone to do something like that. but thats her life i guess. she's a lesbian. so she says. she said i should just sign myself to a label. and after that promote myself. i guess you can hire promoters. people who can book your gigs for you. and then you have to pay the venues for the shows. you pay your studio for the album. and then you pay your tour manager for booking it. but yeah. ive only done one paying gig. anitas only been my tour person. never hired anyone. ive talked about managers before. i guess i dont need that. i dont know. but it might be nice to have one. i guess they do the hard work. while you focus on the music. they take their cut but they do their fair share of work. im not sure if theyre worth having but they might be. i heard that alot of people will screw you over. i was hearing stories from the girl yesterday. she was saying there are alot of people in columbus who are untrustworthy. that was just kinda stupid to experience.
