babyshambles shotters nations

here's why this record rocks. first of all major british nostalgia for me. like you listen, you can feel like a carefree kid walkin round england. thats what essentially i want to be. i mean how awesome would it be to just be roaming around england playing music and just chilling out and stuff. doherty shows us all how to do it. like the laid back delivery, yet poetic, i mean so laid back that he allows himself to intellectualize, the music thats just good to the core, cheery and generally upbeat, and i dont see whats so terrible about the guy honestly. people like to say he's like the devil incarnate, pointing to his drug use but honestly the work he does in his albums are so great that its just a refreshing offering especially when sharing space with that tight assed shit you often see being offered, in fact its a refreshing heterosexual offering of music, in an industry thats homo-centric in my eyes. nice to see a regular joe whose got a sunny disposition who just wants to rock out, and just go for walks watching the wind in the trees. thats kinda the disjointed, not quite belonging and kinda airey mysterious layabout that just has so much appeal to so many people. doherty rocks, and so does his music. its just clear. enjoy this shit. because its rarifiedly good.

major british nostalgia

i used to live in england, from the years 1986 to 1992, and from 1993 to 1995. im actually halfway down to visiting a friend whose vacationing in florida with his mum dad sister and brother. my mom dad and sister just got done visiting them and are mostly flown back. i have actually visited since i moved, i had a chance to se the house my father paid to have built. well my father and mother. and i remember playing in the sawdust. i just had fun with the little toy car in the sawdust. and then to see it falling to ruin was just hard on my 17 year old eyes. i had lived there many years, enjoyed it, and had always thought i'd be coming back, but really i never did. that was harsh for me, because in 1993 we did actually return, making me think the time in england was just a harsh blemish of a memory that wouldnt come back agani, and then when we did move back in 1995 it was like... i expected to go back home eventually, but i never did. so it was like, crazy stuff. so yeah. im sitting here now 23, having spent far too long in this place, just wanting to go back to what is essentially my home. i just need a method to go, and now that i have a girlfriend i need a way for her to go too. but its largely because of her that i could really see myself there, with her. its due to her that this is becoming possible.

you can feel like a carefree kid walkin round england

i used to be this kid. in 2007 and early 2008 i took numerous trips over to england a did just that, roamed aruond on my own ,on the streets, taking pictures, taking in the sights, teh scenery, and just generally enjoying myself, whilst taking around an acuostic, playing songs, and just enjoying feeling free and at home. thats essentially what lifes like back there. i did this, then i came back and decided i wanted to give college another try. in 08 fall i went to OSU and came home with a girl, something much better. so im now sitting here in virginia on the way to florida to visit sammy from blackburn and i wonder maybe i should give this doherty layabout british wanderer gig a try. because never has it seemed so alluring as now. with anita by my side things seem possible and maybe ill get to actually do this after being kept from it for so long. maybe ill finally get to be back home where i belong. because without it, im just a half person. i need to get back so i can live free, who gives a shit about racism, its always there, just avoid the bad bits, and do your thing. its possble to live there without getting murdered instantly. and for those who say stay, fuck that, you werent robbed from your cradle, you have no concept as to what this shits like. shove it up yer arse.

how awesome would it be to just be roaming around england playing music and just chilling out

very. i mean having my band out there, doing my thing, just being me, doing my art, maybe trying a degree, whatever i needed, i mean, thats what i want anyway, and then trying it out, seeing what i could do out there, the lands great, and i need to return to my home. its high time and im completely due. so nothing else really mattrs. so thats what im gonna do. im gonna go voer there and just say fuck it to here hah, because this's jsut a fuckig trip that's been shit a fuck, never enjoyed sightseeing anyway heh, and im just a fucking tourist here, time to go the fuck home. fuck yeah ;p. have some fish and chips and just walk down the country lane w/ an acoustic guitar. hah and yeah, for sure, teh best hting i picked up from OSU 08 was girlfriend he, way better than some crappy degree :P. so yeah. but anyway ive got a chick squeezing me so its time to go:P.
to the core, cheery and generally upbeat

MUSIC BLOG

new releases for the week of july 14th 09
twista
this ones seems interesting because back in the day i think i d/l'd some of his stuff in the days of kazaa, real fast rapper and all that, had kinda surprising skill with that, otherwise wasnt hardcore into them really. but yeah. something to keep an eye on.

new releases for the week of july 21
fiery furnaces
so they had that one song awhile ago. actually im thining of hot hot heat. nfc about these guys heh.
sugar ray
90s band, did good stuff. wonder how they'll turn out in '09.

new releases for the week of july 28
- nothing.

new releases for the week of august 4
circulatory system
i picked an album of these guys up whilst i was in my torrent phase, good shit and not memorable if i remember right.
modest mouse
solid release back in the early 2000s, a college record well played, i wasnt even into them that much but many of those songs off of that album are iconic to that era.

new releases for the week of august 11
the roots
now a band for a late-night show, their last album sucked, but they've always seemed more celebrity than musician anyway. might be interesting to check out.
patrick wolf
folk, if im thinknig right, i checked him out, didnt like it much, but it did get sent to me through the grape vine.
queen latifah
i dont know what she's doing releasing an album, but lets see how this goes.

new releases for the week of august 18
brendan benson
acoustic poppery if i remember right. probably sucks, but perhaps worth checking out.
lil wayne
rap, nausiating to listen to, but might be worth checking out. supposedly most prolific / up and come-er of our day.
third eye blind
old 90's band slinging out new shit. might be worth a check out.
nathan maxwell and the original bunny gang (flogging molly bassist)
flogging molly elicits irish imagery, for that reason alone might be worth checking out for the irisih - punk culture clash that might ensue.

new releases for the week of august 25
arctic monkeys
british indie-pop group that i never got into, but inevitably was forced to stomache, as often is the case with music. its out there, and you can't help but come in contact with alot of it.
collective soul
their album dosage still kinda gets played around from time to time on my pc, its a high one, not the greatest i have but one of the ones that've stuck with me a long long while. might be worth a check out.
mariah carey
i remember in the 90s when she would do some of the pop videos that'd run in the summer. i'm curious as to what she's up to now.
imogen heap
she had the song hide and seek. for that reason alone this is probably worth checking out hah. otherwise, i have no clue what this will be like. but hopefully if there's more hide and seek to be found, it'll rock.
matisyahu
jewish hasidic rapper, never got too into his stuff, but he does seem to get progressively better. i feel a penchant to want to like the guy, but just cant, feeling again like this's a matter of someone with more celebrity than talent. so yeah... probably will check out, probably will disappoint.
mellowdrone
this's something i'm excited to see. these guys, and the founding member was a kid who i would catch on grainy net vids back in the early 2000s, before his band was as big as it is now. he'd do like... jonathan bates was his name, all these loop pedal setups, with drums and everything, it just inspired me immensely to do the same thing, so i did, never really to his full extent, but maybe i will take it just that bit further. either way, crazy dude.
willie nelson
'course when talking about this guy you think weed, and a big fucking beard, but the dude had like, clean shaven face n shit back in his early days. go look it up, you might be surprised. anyhow, he's one of those old productive bastards that just wont go away, im not sure im hugely into what he does, but his celebrity and persona are certainly welcome characters to the music industry today. so for that reason i might check it out.
smokey robinson
simply for the name check, and no other reason. potentially surprising, or perhaps disappointing, i go into this with no expectations.

new releases for the week of september 1st
whitney houston
so, she's back, after drugs and all else. lets see what she can do.
the used
name check purposes only. nfc as to the sound or anything. no expectations.

new releses for the week of september 8th

september 11th
jayz
heh. what a putz for releasing shit on sept 11. trying to use the day as a marketing ploy for his album. lovely eh? for someone who supposedly quit rap too. ah well. might check it out, probably wont like.
september 14th
muse
this might rock. last one did. theyve gotten better in my eyes, to my ears, over the years, and thogh some might disagree, their latest was in my opinion their most listenable. previous offerings just gave me a headache heh. so we'll see how this goes.

new releases for the week of september 15th
beastie boys
classic rap outfit, white, releases new album? might be worth checking heh. althogh its worth noting ive never loved a beastie boys album, usually hated them.

new releases for the week of september 22nd
sean "diddy" combs
so puff daddy releases another eh? i cant say ive really ekpt up with his career since the godzilla cd, before or since, so nfc if i'll even check it out, but who knows, miracles do happen. probably'll suck, but no expecations.
madonna
hah, well, i liked her spy who shagged me soundtrack. otherwise im not a huge old school madonna fan, but then she seems to be able to adapt fairly well. referencing her later vids and stuff, generally poppy, and she's also 50. interesting stuff, probably the female mick jagger.
pearl jam
well, never liked 'em, not much at least, 'til i did some research on grunge-era 90s, the era i entered the states. whilst in home britpop was in full swing, i of course msised that fully a) not being into music and b) not being in the country. instead i got nirvana, creed, & co. and so these guys are a vestige of that era, ever continuing in those styles, of nihilstic moans and gutteral belly-aching. probably won't like, but probably will listen.

new releases for the week of september 29th

alice in chains
another grunge era band, this one however with little direct contact. no clue, most likely wont check out.
nelly furtado
interesting to hear she's spitting out more. ive kept tabs on her, and many friends have liked her. young latino singer whose done some good stuff. no diea how this'll be. lets just say if it's real... dancy? it'll suck. but if it's more... sing song? then yeah... might be good. we'll see.
paramore
alright, so they rock. just a sweet band, and also, probably the rightful heir to the whole... avril lavigne... thing. she's actually got the talent and all that, so she's more deserving of the fame etc. anyhow... this band actually excites me, so i'll definately be out to check out their next offering.

lynyrd skynyrd
old school rock band spits out another. not a huge fan, never was, but then, i have played sweet home more than a few times. who knows, maybe ill look. then most likely regret it.
barbra streisand
surprisingly, i like her. like... you'd think i wouldn't. but yeah, id o. she's got a charisma & personality that sells her shit, and since she's dated it's also novel having older style shit sung at you. might check itout.

new releases for the week of october 6th
air
hah, well, used to be fans with some huge air fans back in the day. me, i'd listen to one particular song. how does it make you feel. a million times. so i dont know. that particular song basically elicits shitloads of memories from college. whether or not i'll check it out remains to be seen, largely their work disappoints me, but that one song did kinda do something for me. might be a one hit wonder? who knows.

sting
hah well, cameo in uh, lock stock and two smoking barrel aside, the majority of what i know fo this guy is from docu's. yeah, i haven't really checked his albums out, but the docu's were entertaining at least. he's read poetry, and then there's the one about hsi band in the states touring. so yeah... seems like an interesting celebrity, but music wise... not so much my taste from what i've seen and heard. might check it out though for lock stock's sake heh.
